Bleed Purple Hat Pattern

Bleed Purple, double knit, Twitch hat

Looking For Geeky Twitch-Loving Knitters!

This Twitch-themed, color work hat features a whole bunch of Twitch/gaming-related iconography and text -- like a D20, Pacman + ghosts, a mod sword, a subscriber star, kappa, bits, and of course !hype.

This knitting pattern features charts and instructions for both extreme double knit (meaning the hat is reversible and the text is legible on the inside too) and stranded color work versions of this hat.

I have included written / video instructions on how to double knit stockinette, ribbing, and decreases, so if you're a double knitting n00b, you can still try it out with this pattern. And I'm offering up this pattern at the fair price of "pay-what-you-can"!

If you're a Twitch-loving knitter, show your love by knitting up your own Bleed Purple hat!

Pattern Details

SIZE

Because of the intricacies of this pattern, it only comes in one size. Hat is shown double knit on my 20.5" / 51.5cm head, with -4.25" / -10.2cm of ease.

  • Outer Circumference: 16.25"/ 41.3cm (I get fabric that is about .25"/.6cm thick)
  • Length: 8" / 20.3cm

GAUGE In Stockinette

  • 29.5 sts x 39 rows = 4" / 10cm

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS

  • US 1 / 2.25mm 16" / 40cm circular needles or size to obtain gauge
  • US 0 / 2mm 16" / 40cm circular needles or one size down from the needle size used to get gauge (for tighter ribbing, optional)
  • Tapestry Needle
  • 1 Unique Stitch Marker
  • 12 Stitch Markers (optional)

YARN

Hazel Knits Artisan Sock (Fingering) (90% Superwash Merino, 10% Nylon, 400yd / 120g skein); 1 skein in Nekkid (MC); 1 skein in Spooky Hue (CC).

Substitution: Fingering weight, wool sock yarn will do! I used about 300yd / 90g of each skein for a double knit hat.

TECHNIQUES

  • Knit, Purl
  • Two Color Braided Cast On or Long Tail Cast On
  • Double Knit Stitches and Decreases (k2tog)
  • Knitting in the Round

** A note on price: I'm offering up this pattern at the fair price of "pay-what-you-can"! I want to share this pattern with any Twitch-loving knitter who wants to create their own hat. If you can't afford to pay, I understand, but if you can spare some money to show your appreciation and to help cover the cost of time spent creating this pattern (I'd estimate around 50+ hours, including time to create the initial charts, a rough pattern, knitting the sample, then writing out this professional pattern with charts), I would be extremely appreciative! You rock! <3

About This Pattern

A beholder stands before you, ready to wipe out your entire knitting group in one fell swoop! Little does he know, you’re a Level 3 Knitting Wizard. You point your knitting needle towards the beholder and a beam of crackling energy launches and attaches to it! You’re able to defeat this giant beast with your knitting prowess alone!

Okay, that’s not exactly how fight with a beholder would go, but we all know this is really about knitting. Witch Bolt is a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired double knit hat pattern. You knit it up using two colors and when you’re done, it’s magically reversible! Just kidding, there’s no magic here, just your awesome knitting.

In the pattern, I have explained in detail how to double knit stockinette and ribbing, as well as how to decrease while double knitting. If you’re new to double knitting, it can be a great way to get cozy with the method as the color pattern requires very little thought!
