Bleed Purple Hat Pattern

Bleed Purple, double knit, Twitch hat

Looking For Geeky Twitch-Loving Knitters!

This Twitch-themed, color work hat features a whole bunch of Twitch/gaming-related iconography and text -- like a D20, Pacman + ghosts, a mod sword, a subscriber star, kappa, bits, and of course !hype.

This knitting pattern features charts and instructions for both extreme double knit (meaning the hat is reversible and the text is legible on the inside too) and stranded color work versions of this hat.

I have included written / video instructions on how to double knit stockinette, ribbing, and decreases, so if you're a double knitting n00b, you can still try it out with this pattern. And I'm offering up this pattern at the fair price of "pay-what-you-can"!

If you're a Twitch-loving knitter, show your love by knitting up your own Bleed Purple hat!

Pattern Details

Because of the intricacies of this pattern, it only comes in one size. Hat is shown double knit on my 20.5" / 51.5cm head, with -4.25" / -10.2cm of ease.

  • Outer Circumference: 16.25"/ 41.3cm (I get fabric that is about .25"/.6cm thick)
  • Length: 8" / 20.3cm

GAUGE In Stockinette

  • 29.5 sts x 39 rows = 4" / 10cm

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS

  • US 1 / 2.25mm 16" / 40cm circular needles or size to obtain gauge
  • US 0 / 2mm 16" / 40cm circular needles or one size down from the needle size used to get gauge (for tighter ribbing, optional)
  • Tapestry Needle
  • 1 Unique Stitch Marker
  • 12 Stitch Markers (optional)

Hazel Knits Artisan Sock (Fingering) (90% Superwash Merino, 10% Nylon, 400yd / 120g skein); 1 skein in Nekkid (MC); 1 skein in Spooky Hue (CC).

Substitution: Fingering weight, wool sock yarn will do! I used about 300yd / 90g of each skein for a double knit hat.

** A note on price: I'm offering up this pattern at the fair price of "pay-what-you-can"! I want to share this pattern with any Twitch-loving knitter who wants to create their own hat. If you can't afford to pay, I understand, but if you can spare some money to show your appreciation and to help cover the cost of time spent creating this pattern (I'd estimate around 50+ hours, including time to create the initial charts, a rough pattern, knitting the sample, then writing out this professional pattern with charts), I would be extremely appreciative! You rock! <3

Nice Cuppa pattern now available!

Nice Cuppa hat knitting pattern

For your knitting pleasure, let me introduce my newest pattern, Nice Cuppa!

This is a stranded colorwork beanie, knit up in primary colors, with a bit of vintage style that was inspired by a friend and her teacup. Read about my inspiration here.

I used O-Wool’s O-Wash Fingering yarn because the primary colors are deep, the yarn is organically processed to be a superwash wool, and O-Wool produces their yarns with a concern for animal welfare and the environment. The big bonus is that they also sell their fingering weight yarn in smaller mini-skeins, which is perfect for colorwork!

The hat is made to fit adult heads with some wiggle room. I’ve included measurements for the pattern repeats so that you can alter the circumference and the height if you need or want to.

You may want to have some colorwork experience, since this pattern uses 3 colors to a row in places. But hell, I’m all about challenging yourself, so go for it! Some tips on colorwork: Trapping long floats in colorwork by Paper Tiger & Three Color Stranding video by KnitPicks

The Nice Cuppa pattern is available on Ravelry, where you can find more details about the pattern and purchase it for download.

INSULATE! Knitted Hat

After the train wreck that was my mug cozy, I felt like I needed to redeem myself as a knitter and I think I did, so I wanted to share this finished knitted object with you all.

I found the INSULATE! hat pattern by Amy van de Laar on Ravelry a few weeks ago when looking for something to knit with two skeins of yarn John bought for me. It’s a 2-color hat, covered in Daleks, and the pattern is free!

I wasn’t sure about knitting pink and purple Daleks, so I held off on knitting the hat, hoping to find a more appropriate use for the yarn. But the urgent need for a pick-me-up knit trumped my color concerns and I decided to cast-on earlier this week.

I loved working with these yarns. They are both 85% Polwarth wool and 15% silk. The wool makes the yarn squishy and the silk makes the yarn soft(er). They’re both hand-dyed and had slight variations in color. (And in case you’re wondering, which you’re probably not, fiber-enthusiasts care to know what kind of sheep their wool comes from, which is why it is known that this wool is from Polwarth sheep.)

Dalek hat and a Doctor Who reference on my shirt (not planned, but I have so many Whovian shirts, it was bound to happen)

Oh, how I love to knit a hat. They’re so quick to knit up and this one only had 3 ends to weave in when I was done — quick finishing FTW.

If you enjoy stranded colorwork, I’d definitely recommend this pattern. Amy (the designer) gives very clear instructions on how to knit the hat and how to knit it without needlessly wasting too much yarn. Rows with minimal color changes actually just use slipped stitches from the previous row so you don’t have to carry the other color around the back. Pretty snazzy!

In other knitting news, I started knitting a shirtie today (that’s a shirt and a hoodie). This is my first non-accessory garment that I will be knitting. I’m nervous but excited at the same time. Will keep you all posted!
